About SCMEP

The South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership is a private, non-profit organisation founded in 1989 — one of the first three centers established in what became the national Manufacturing Extension Partnership network.

SCMEP works with manufacturers across South Carolina to improve performance, quality, and competitiveness. SCMEP Online is the learning platform where that expertise is delivered: individual courses, structured learning paths, and the OpExChange peer network.

Part of a national network

The MEP National Network has a center in every state and in Puerto Rico. It is a programme of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and exists to help small and medium-sized manufacturers grow, improve productivity, and cut costs.

SCMEP is the South Carolina center, and operates as a NIST affiliate. That matters for two reasons: the work is measured and reported publicly each year, and manufacturers get access to a network far larger than any one state.
